Open up and say... aha :-)

Well, now you know what's inside the box because we looked at the insides of a computer tower. We saw many different circuits that work together.

When your team had the opportunity to take apart a laptop, what was different?

What kinds of things did you find inside the laptop?

What surprised you the most during this experience?

Comments:
well evrething is smaller in the laptop

the part that shocked me that was the mother board and cd drive that cd drive is so small.

IT IS SO FUN TO TAKE APERT A COMPYOOR

The Different between my partners peace and mine was that it had different peaces.

the mother board has so many little circuits and the little chips.

i finally saw inside of a laptop!!!.
it surprised me that saw a fan.

The computer was different because it has more stuff in it and the laptop is smaller. I found small pieces in the laptop like screws and chips. I was surprised to see all the stuff that was in there.

It was fun tearing down the laptop.
What was the same was the hard drive,
memory chip, mother board and the cd rom.The difference was the size oF THE componants.

I saw the skrean and the cd plaer.

taking apart a computer was SO much fun. I loved taking apart the screen the screws were the hardest.

this is what we found in the laptops a mother broad
lots of skews.

The hardest part this afternoon was taking apart the laptop

I was so amazed how similar the tower was compared to the laptop just smaller.. I really enjoyed helping the students take apart the laptop, how the screen is only made up of transparent paper and plastic and glass. The amount of screws in the laptop was unreal.. It was a really exciting experience I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!

this is what we did see at the laptops a mother board
lots of wires, big fans and small fans.

@911 - You're right, everything is MUCH smaller inside a laptop!

@gobbles - It's amazing that the cd drive is just barely bigger than the cd that fits inside it...

@jr - Just like inside a computer tower, there has to be a fan inside. Do you remember why?

AHA is right I finally know what is in a laptop!! What surprised me was that some of our team just took pictures and rarely helped, Rabbles and I helped the most. What was awesome was the paper in the Moniter. The laptop stuff was way smaller then the stuff in the tower.

So Fabulous!!

The computer and the laptop were different because the computer is bigger so there is different circuits in it. The laptop had green circuits and different coloured wires. I was surprised by how big the batteries in the laptop were.

i found the mother board and the ram.

@Venus Girl - I was also really surprised by the sheets of 'paper' that some groups found inside the screen. It wasn't really transparent, it looked like of reflective, like a mirror!

This was so fun, I thought taking apart the computer was cool.It challenging taking out the little pieces.

@gobbles - The 'ram' that your group found inside your laptop was really small! I was surprised that it wasn't found right in the middle of the laptop, but instead it was really close to the outside of the computer on the bottom...

it was so cool taking apart a tower of an computer. but I did not take apart a lab top but I did take apart the tower it was sweet dude.

I had the chance to see what was inside a laptop, I know what was in the tower. Everything is so small. The team worked very hard at tearing down the laptop and the tower. It was quite neat to watch the faces and listen to the comments. I think was a great day 1. What will tomorrow bring.

The difference between a regular computer and a laptop is that the parts are smaller. In the laptop I found a large battery and a ethernet card. I was surprised by the little amount of wires.

we all loved it it is so fun

The difference between the computer and laptop was that the laptop is smaller. In the laptop I found wires that were connected to circuits. I was surprised when we started taking apart the computer because I didn't know what we would find in there! I had a great day.

I was really surprised that I saw so many little parts inside our laptop. My group used a screwdriver to pop all of the little keys off the keyboard.

I loved it when the whole class took apart a laptop. The hardest part was taking apart the bottom of the laptop. The difference of a computer and a laptop is,a computer has bigger pieces and the laptop has smaller pieces then a computer.ITS A LOT OF FUN!!!

so it is ignite so fun

Hey The Salmon guy,

why is the mouse called a mouse??

So Fabulous!

@Venus Girl - Good question! Whenever I'm asked a question that I don't know the answer to, I turn to Wikipedia (an online encyclopedia) for assistance. Here's what Wikipedia has to say about why a mouse is called a mouse:

"The name mouse, originated at the Stanford Research Institute, derives from the resemblance of early models (which had a cord attached to the rear part of the device, suggesting the idea of a tail) to the common mouse."

AHA! Wow, I was blown away by our afternoon! First of all, I LOVE the ELMO camera! What a great tool!

The laptop was quite different from the tower. It was harder to take apart, even when all the screws were removed you still had to pry it apart, I wasn't expecting that after seeing how easily the tower slipped apart!

It was neat to recognize pieces of the laptop that are similar to the tower - like RAM, the motherboard, the cd drive, etc. I was also please that I recognized the ethernet card - does that mean I spend too much time on the Internet?!

I was surprised by the amount of screws! One group that I worked with were naming the screws based on their size... those "baby" screws are MIGHTY tiny! Get ready because we'll be using those screws again... we'll be estimating how many screws came out of the laptops in math class!

I was also surprised that the screen was so difficult to take apart. I was also shocked at what we found inside the screen. Very neat! Those reflective papers made for some great photos!

I was not surprised by how engaged the students were. Everyone seemed so busy and happy! A great day was had by all! I can not wait until tomorrow!

Well 619, sounds like you are all having a great time. I can't wait to see what is happening when I get back!

Chimp, did you notice that the circuit boards were similar to the SNAP circuits you made earlier?

Overall, sounds like everyone is having a great time and doing some great learning too:)
